Palm Wax and Environmental Considerations

The fruit of the oil palm grows on trees, and is harvested by hand, one by one. Unlike plants grown from seeds sown in the ground, this method requires significantly less energy and labor for harvesting. The kernels of the oil palm fruit are rich in oil, from which a large amount of wax can be extracted.

Globally, efforts to promote biofuels have intensified, leading to the clearing of vast rainforests and their conversion into oil palm plantations. This has resulted in the destruction of diverse ecosystems in Southeast Asia.

The palm wax used by Living Light is produced through sustainable natural farming methods that protect the environment, cultivated on farms in Malaysia by members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). The RSPO was established by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), an organization involving leaders from government and industry.

The wax that drips down the outside of this wall creates an organic, lace-like pattern, reminiscent of Gaudí's Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, resulting in a form that resembles a sculptural piece.
