A Nod to 140 Years of History: The Iconic Coca-Cola Bottle and Can
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1886, "Coca-Cola" is a refreshing beverage cherished in over 200 countries worldwide. Throughout its 140-year history, its distinctive "bottle" and the ubiquitous "can" have come to symbolize its enduring presence.
The now-familiar logo was designed by Frank M. Robinson, a business partner of founder John S. Pemberton. Introduced around 1887, the logo, based on the popular Spencerian script of the time, was consciously crafted to make the two "C" letters flow beautifully. This design has remained virtually unchanged through the ages.
Then, in 1915, the "Contour Bottle," with its instantly recognizable silhouette, was born. With its unique curves, designed so that one could identify Coca-Cola by touch even in the dark, it's no exaggeration to say this bottle transcended its function as mere packaging to define the brand's image.
Interestingly, while the full-scale manufacturing and sale of "Coca-Cola" in Japan began in 1961, the "History of Coca-Cola Business in Japan" on the Coca-Cola Japan website suggests imports began as early as the Taisho era. The name "Coca-Cola" even appears in the debut poetry collection "Dotei" by the poet Kotaro Takamura, published in 1914.
A brief digression.
The history of the can, on the other hand, began slightly later, in the 1950s. Cans for overseas and military use first appeared in the U.S. in 1955. In Japan, canned Coca-Cola was first released in 1965, and with the proliferation of vending machines compatible with canned beverages from the 1970s onwards, it became an even more accessible format.

Even as the container evolved from bottle to can, the designs featuring the Coca-Cola logo have been passed down, echoing the memories of each era.
The BE@RBRICK figures introduced here allow you to enjoy the charm of Coca-Cola, with its long and storied history, as tangible objects. The "BE@RBRICK COCA-COLA BOTTLE 100% & 400%" recreates the iconic Contour Bottle with a clear body, while the "BE@RBRICK COCA-COLA CAN 100% & 400%" features a vibrant red and white logo in a modern design.
