Material Evolution and Uncompromising Quality

Monza by Grcic and Plank

The dining chair "Monza" by Konstantin Grcic, which caused a stir in the media as soon as it was unveiled at the 2009 Milan Salone, is finally arriving in Japan. This is the third collaboration between Grcic and the Italian furniture manufacturer "PLANK," which boasts over 100 years of history.

A Dining Chair with Beautiful Stacked Form

Unlike the chairs made from a single piece of plastic seen in "MYTO" and "Miura Stool," "Monza" uses ash wood, evoking Scandinavian wooden chairs. While the overall form gives a soft impression, the evolution of materials is evident throughout, such as the connection of wood and plastic-molded parts. It is no exaggeration to say that it embodies the spirit of PLANK, a company rooted in modern industrial design.

The one-piece plastic component from the backrest to the arms is shaped for comfort and serves as an accent. The seating comfort is also excellent, with less of the "hardness" often felt in wooden chairs. Furthermore, it is stackable, making it suitable for office use. The range of colors, from monochrome to vibrant hues, is sure to delight and perhaps even overwhelm users.
