A Quiet Homage to Marcel Proust

This corner introduces carefully selected, timely products related to interiors and design.
This time, we present Alessandro Mendini's 'Proust Armchair'.

Text by Masaki Takei

The Postmodern design movement, which captivated the world in the 1980s, was spearheaded by Italy's leading designer, Alessandro Mendini. He was also known for his multifaceted career, serving as editor-in-chief of the design magazine 'Domus' and as a design consultant and art director for numerous brands.

In the 1970s, Mendini, who was engaged in redesign projects and worked on fabric patterns for Cassina, sought to reinterpret the forms and decorations of various eras. This led to the creation of the 'Proust Armchair,' which combined an 18th-century French Neo-Baroque chair with a vibrant section of a painting by Paul Signac. The original dates back to 1978.

This masterpiece, adorned with conceptual and beautiful ornamentation, will now be exhibited at hhstyle.com/Limited. Its groundbreaking fusion of Baroque style and Impressionist painting promises to envelop you in a leisurely embrace, offering an elegantly comfortable seating experience.
