“Dandy ~ DESIGNTIDE > CHANOYU SIDE ~” Exhibition

Contemporary tea ceremony, drawing attention from the art scene. Ippin Sara-ya, arguably its mastermind, presents an exhibition event for men's tea ceremony, “Dandy ~ DESIGNTIDE > CHANOYU SIDE ~.” It will be held from Wednesday, October 24th to Tuesday, November 6th, on the 5th floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building, in the Living floor area.

Recreating a Contemporary Man's Study Space on the 5th Floor of Isetan Shinjuku Main Building

Held as a tide extension of “DESIGNTIDE TOKYO 2012” and as part of “ISETAN DESIGN WEEK,” “Dandy ~ DESIGNTIDE > CHANOYU SIDE ~” is based on Ippin Sara-ya's hypothesis: "Could the tea room for contemporary men be their study?" Contemporary artists, fashion designers, interior designers, and traditional craft artisans have each contributed their perspectives to modern tea utensils and tea spaces, proposing a tea ceremony and tea practice for men living today.

In the contemporary man's tea room, tea ceremony is positioned as an extension of male hobbies such as collecting cameras and fountain pens, or enjoying cigars, proposing new ways to enjoy it. During the event, there will be introductions of works by participating artists, talk shows, and tea ceremony demonstrations by tea masters, all held within the exhibition space.
