MAFEX SPACE SUIT (ORANGE Ver./YELLOW Ver.) | MEDICOM TOY
MEDICOM TOY
An Enduring Masterpiece in Film History
Arriving in MAFEX Ahead of its 50th Anniversary
Text by SHINNO Kunihiko
Stanley Kubrick, the visionary director and screenwriter, gifted the world with the seminal science fiction film *2001: A Space Odyssey*. This work, depicting the dawn of humanity and humanity's first contact with extraterrestrial life, sparked both acclaim and controversy upon its release in 1968 due to its profound complexity. Yet, the breathtaking visuals, set to the timeless strains of classical masterpieces like "Also sprach Zarathustra" and "The Blue Danube," remain as captivating today as they were half a century ago.
MEDICOM TOY has brought to life the spacesuits worn by Captain David Bowman and astronaut Frank Poole aboard the spaceship Discovery, on its mission to Jupiter, as the "MAFEX SPACE SUIT (ORANGE Ver. / YELLOW Ver.)". This project represented a lifelong ambition for Tatsuhiko Akashi, President and CEO of MEDICOM TOY, and a devoted fan of Stanley Kubrick.A Lifelong Ambitionsince the company's founding.
MAFEX SPACE SUIT (ORANGE Ver. / YELLOW Ver.)
The ORANGE Ver. represents the suit worn by Captain Bowman, the film's protagonist, who delivered a shocking moment in the final scene. The YELLOW Ver. is the suit worn by astronaut Poole. It's worth noting that Poole reappears as the protagonist in the novel *2001: The Final Odyssey*, the concluding chapter of the series published by Arthur C. Clarke in 1997, 29 years after the film's release. With these figures, faithfully recreating details like the helmets and life support systems, why not take a moment to contemplate the vastness of space? Prototype production by PERFECT-STUDIO. Each approximately 160mm in height. Movable figure stands included. Each ¥5,800 (excluding tax). Now available.
