A Day of Discovery, Captured by Nikon Cameras

The opening film, "The DAY," was first unveiled by Nikon at the camera expo "CP+" held in Yokohama at the end of January. The keyword that strongly resonates from Nikon's philosophy in this film is "light." The company's solid technological prowess in crafting cameras and its world-class "NIKKOR lenses" is what captivates photographers worldwide, enabling them to capture light richly.

The film, which expresses the world of the Nikon brand, features SLR cameras, NIKKOR lenses attached to them, interchangeable-lens advanced cameras (often called mirrorless), and compact cameras. All are bodies and lenses designed to capture light, developed with Nikon's consistent philosophy. Here, we introduce some of them along with diverse examples from the film.

Nikon Booth a Great Success from Day One

Still photography was handled by Koichi Mitsui, also known for his photographic works using the iPhone.
On the special page, "Nikon Brand Story "The DAY"", articles with commentary by Mr. Mitsui are scheduled to be released sequentially starting this month.

Furthermore, the film was shot using the SLR cameras "D4" and "D800." Content such as behind-the-scenes stories and shooting techniques from director Shinsuke Sanemori and cinematographer Marden Dean will also be available.

A Diverse Range of Lenses to Capture All Light

Photographs taken with Nikon's various cameras and lenses appear in the film. The photo above was taken using the D4 SLR body and the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED lens. Nikon's greatest strength is undoubtedly its extensive lens lineup. The world's highest quality lenses, known as "NIKKOR lenses," which celebrate their 80th anniversary this year, numbered over 80 types as of 2013, catering to the diverse needs of photographers. It is precisely these NIKKOR lenses that enable Nikon to "shed light beyond imagination."

Nikon's Compact Cameras Capture Fleeting Expressions

Next is a scene capturing the fleeting expressions of children playing with soap bubbles. This was captured by the "Nikon 1 V2" from the "Nikon 1" series of advanced interchangeable-lens cameras. Positioned as a mirrorless camera, this model is compact and lightweight, boasts fast autofocus, high-speed continuous shooting, and is equipped with features that capture decisive moments. In particular, the newly adopted "Slow View" function allows for shooting up to 40 frames in approximately 1.3 seconds, from which the best shot can be selected, further evolving it as a camera that never misses a moment.

The Culmination of Nikon's Philosophy, Creating Overwhelming Beauty

The photograph capturing a somewhat melancholic female expression in the night rain was taken with the D600. This model, considered one of the pinnacles of Nikon's philosophy, was released in the fall of 2012 and is the smallest and lightest digital camera among Nikon's FX-format models. With 24 million pixels, it delivers the beautifully large bokeh characteristic of the larger FX-format sensor, along with rich tonal gradation. It is a device that encapsulates overwhelming Nikon quality.

Each of these products embodies Nikon's philosophy, transforming the photographer's perspective into something broader and richer. The film "The DAY" vividly conveys this world of Nikon.
