A Tough Device Compliant with MIL-Spec Standards
The year 2015 can be called the dawn of the smartwatch era in the watch industry, with various companies exploring ways to connect their timepieces with smartphones. Casio had already integrated its flagship "G-SHOCK" with smartphones to notify users of incoming emails and allow control of music devices. For "Edifice," they implemented a world time function that synchronizes with smartphone network time to correct the watch's time.
Now, Casio is releasing a wrist device that fuses its expertise in PADs and Bluetooth-enabled digital cameras with the technology cultivated through its watchmaking.
At its core are diverse functions that leverage connectivity with various smartphones, sensors, and apps. For example, on treks or bike rides, knowing altitude changes can aid in pacing, while understanding sunrise and sunset times ensures you won't miss crucial natural moments. The tide graph function also makes it easy to pinpoint the optimal times for fishing when fish are most active.
The display features a dual-layer TFT LCD, allowing users to choose between a high-detail color display or a power-saving monochrome mode. Route mapping is possible, not just for navigation but also for displaying various types of information. Comprehensive data acquisition, including weather tracking and route logging, becomes feasible.
Furthermore, it can connect with Casio's "EXILIM Outdoor Recorder EX-FR100" digital camera. For instance, you can remotely control the camera, mounted on a helmet or bag holder, to capture stunning natural spectacles without missing the perfect shot.
The display allows for a combination of various watch face layouts and sensor information, making the interplay with the four available case colors an enjoyable aspect.
In terms of functionality, the watch has undergone tests compliant with MIL-STD-810, the U.S. Department of Defense's standard for military equipment procurement. It has passed criteria for drop, vibration, humidity, solar radiation, low pressure, high temperature, low temperature, temperature shock, and freezing. Its durability is certified to be on par with official military equipment. Moreover, despite featuring a microphone, it maintains 5-bar water resistance.
In essence, the Smart Outdoor Watch represents the culmination of Casio's expertise, honed through its watches like "G-SHOCK" and its various electronic devices. It is the definitive outdoor item, equipped with true practicality capable of performing in any outdoor scenario. A new wrist device, inheriting Casio's DNA, has been born.
