A Compact Battery for Navigating Energy Crises

As energy shortages become more pressing, attention is turning to how we can store electricity, and companies are accelerating their development of storage batteries. Amidst this, Sony, which has just entered the energy system business combining commercial storage batteries and solar power generation, is also releasing a compact home storage battery.

Sony's Signature Sleek Design

The Home Energy Server being released this time is equipped with a secondary battery using Sony's olivine-type lithium iron phosphate for the positive electrode, enabling repeated long-term use. It can be charged directly from a household outlet, and the remaining charge can be checked with a single touch. When supplying power to household appliances, simply connect the appliance to one of the two outlets on the side of the server and press the output button for easy, straightforward operation.

With a battery capacity of approximately 300 watt-hours, this server can power LED lighting for about 10 hours, a fan for about 5 hours, or a liquid crystal television for about two and a half hours. It can also fully charge a smartphone approximately 30 times.

Sony's olivine-type lithium iron phosphate secondary battery has an estimated lifespan of over 10 years based on Sony's accelerated testing (under conditions of one charge/discharge cycle per day at room temperature of 23°C), and also boasts high safety. Furthermore, safety is enhanced through features such as overcurrent protection, a protection timer, and abnormal temperature/output detection.

Its compact design, which defies the conventional image of bulky chargers, is unmistakably Sony.
