This THINK Features a Discussion Session
Known for his distinctive portraits of women with elongated necks, which leave an unforgettable impression, Ed TSUWAKI is an artist with many facets: illustrator, painter, and designer.
He drew every day from childhood through his teenage years. Around the time he started listening to music as a junior high school student, he would cut out typography from magazines to create his own cassette labels.
He describes these self-taught methods as the foundation of his work even today. Starting his career in Tokyo in 1988 as an illustrator and art director, he held his first solo exhibition in 1994. Since then, his fashion illustrations, particularly his portraits of women for international fashion magazines like "VOGUE," brands, and advertisements, have showcased a unique worldview that stands in contrast to photographic expression.
With a decade of experience running his own apparel brand, live painting, and logo design, Ed TSUWAKI continuously pursues and achieves his dreams by transforming his art into various forms. We hope to hear about the drive and motivation that propelled him from Hiroshima to the global stage, and perhaps glean insights that can illuminate Hiroshima.
In recent years, Ed has felt a growing connection to his hometown. He proposed that this event be an opportunity to share information about contemporary Hiroshima with everyone attending. We envision this not just as a place to listen to the host and guest, but as a forum for a reciprocal "THINK" about "Hiroshima's present and future," fostering encounters and new beginnings.
We hope you'll all be eagerly anticipating this event.
We sincerely look forward to hearing your thoughts and information about Hiroshima.
