I've been working with flowers for a long time, but lately I'm often awestruck and bewildered by the fleeting, layered, and multifaceted nature of things like night, water, ash, sunlight, birdsong, dark soil, wisteria trellises, parks, and cheers. My cells are telling me they want to arrange flowers this time.
"Though colors may bloom, they inevitably fade..."

Come to think of it, ikebana might be a "grave"

Faka, we're told, refers to the amount of work.

While we have words like "haka-bashii" (successful) and "haka-dorū" (progressing), the Japanese have also invoked the concept of the "hakanai" (transient).

Ikebana is both ephemeral and, at the same time, productive; it is the "fading" of cut flowers, and a "scale" for weighing. Plants always teach us the speed and depth of a blink. Past, present, future. The weight of the moment.—.
