Shigeki Fujishiro Focuses on the Material's Properties: Heat Resistance, Insulation, and Flexibility

Vulcanized fiber, a pure natural material made from wood pulp and cotton, boasts a history of approximately 100 years. It is a groundbreaking material that combines the advantages of metal, plastic, rubber, leather, and wood, while also excelling in electrical insulation, heat resistance, abrasion resistance, and impact resistance. Consequently, it is indispensable for motor insulators and parts of certain industrial products.

Fascinated by this material, Fujishiro focused on its heat resistance, insulation, and flexibility. The "rivet lamp" is a masterful design that leverages these properties. For the shade, he first made cuts in the unrolled pattern of a cone. When rolled into a cylinder and secured with rivets, this creates a unique "flexibility," and light emanates in three directions from the cut sections, further brightening the space.

Its craft-like color tones and simple texture do not assert themselves, making it exceptionally compatible with any space. It can be effectively utilized in living rooms, entryways, or children's rooms. The affordable price point is also a welcome bonus.

Shigeki Fujishiro(Shigeki Fujishiro)
Born in Tokyo in 1974. After graduating from Wako University's Faculty of Economics, he completed the evening program at Kuwasawa Design School. In 1998, he joined IDÉE Co., Ltd., where he designed original furniture and other items. He left the company in 2005 to establish shigeki fujishiro design. Recently, he has also been involved in brand direction for Saito Wood Co., Ltd.
