The Norito Table: A Dining Table with a Shelf
The "WORK AROUND TABLE" project, by woodworker Hiroshi Hashimoto and lifestyle product designer Masanori Oji, proposes interior products for the table and its surroundings. The first release from this initiative is the "Norito Table."

For Those Who Appreciate an Uncluttered Tabletop
"A dining table for family use," "a work desk or meeting table for work," "a table for gatherings and celebrations."
The two designers re-examined the dining table, focusing on these three roles it plays in daily life.
To use the tabletop space freely, one often needs to "put away" items like remote controls and tissue boxes. This led to the idea of a "dining table with a shelf" to effectively utilize the space beneath the tabletop.
Both the tabletop and the shelf are crafted from solid oak, specifically using quarter-sawn wood for its minimal warping and excellent stability.
The legs are made of stainless steel, allowing for reduced material thickness while maintaining strength, resulting in a sleek visual impression.
Furthermore, the shelf is positioned slightly recessed from the tabletop. This thoughtful design allows for comfortable seating, even with legs crossed, by simply pulling the chair out a little. Every detail reflects the consideration of both the designer and the craftsman.
The "Norito Table" is versatile for various uses. It is here that much communication will undoubtedly flourish.
