Steiff x Yoshitaka Amano Polar Bear is Born

As the first product of the "ART OF EARTH PROJECT," which contributes to global environmental issues (animal protection) through art, the historic German manufacturer Steiff has created the Steiff x Yoshitaka Amano Polar Bear.

Yoshitaka Amano, who successively handled character designs for famous works at Tatsunoko Production and later handled the visual concept for "Final Fantasy" after going independent.

In 2000, he was nominated for the Hugo Award (America's oldest and most prestigious SF award) for his collaboration with Neil Gaiman, "The Sandman: The Dream Hunter," and in the same year, he won the Eisner Award (given to works and creators with outstanding achievements in comic media, the predecessor to the Kirby Award).

For this project, Amano created "Crisis," with the theme of "animals facing extinction due to environmental degradation."

Steiff has brought the polar bear, the central symbol of this illustration, to life as a plush toy. The polar bear's charming appearance has been realized through Steiff's historic craftsmanship. The exceptional skills of Steiff, the authority in teddy bears, are fully showcased. As expected of a rare item limited to 1,000 units in Japan, it has already become a topic of conversation among collectors. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to environmental protection organizations.
