In Genk, a small town about 90 kilometers from Antwerp, Belgium, lies "STUDIO PIETER STOCKMANS." This is the atelier of Piet Stockmans, a leading Belgian visual artist who received the National Flanders Arts Award in 1988.

After teaching at university, Stockmans worked as an industrial designer for companies in the Netherlands and Germany before establishing his own brand, "PIETER STOCKMANS," in 1987. His high-quality creations quickly garnered attention and have since received worldwide acclaim.

Among his many works, "LA MAR" is an original collection created for the restaurant run by French culinary master Alain Ducasse in Monaco.

The series, whose name means "deep sea" in French, was completed after years of contemplation and experimentation in Stockmans' atelier. The blue, which leverages the texture of semi-porcelain, displays various expressions depending on the nuances of light, evoking a serene impression akin to the ocean's waves.

The design, which capitalizes on the properties of hard porcelain fired at 1400 degrees Celsius, is exquisite. One can observe a delicate thinness and a substantial thickness within a single piece. The molding and glazing are meticulously handcrafted by Stockmans and his team, ensuring each item has its own unique character.

Beyond their refined design, functionality is another hallmark of Stockmans' work. The curves fit comfortably in the palm when held with both hands, and the exquisite forms are striking not only as tableware but also as impressive objets d'art. Stockmans' sensibility, highly regarded in industrial design, is sure to elevate any living space.
