The interior walls are a vibrant blue. Amidst an atmosphere that perfectly embodies the shop's name, "on the shore," antique furniture in the "Shanghai Art Deco" style is displayed.

Owner Mr. Tani explains, "From the mid-19th century for about 100 years, Shanghai had foreign concessions, known as 'settlements.' It is said that Chinese traditional culture and Western culture merged there, giving birth to a unique world and culture.
Shanghai Art Deco furniture was designed and manufactured during that era, particularly in the 1920s and 30s, which are considered Shanghai's most prosperous period."

"At that time, Art Deco was at its peak. Those buildings still exist throughout Shanghai today, precious heritage that still exudes the elegance and avant-garde spirit of that era. And the interiors of those buildings were magnificent, a fusion of European, American, Chinese, and Lao Shanghai (an old name for Shanghai during the concession period) designs. Looking at the few available reference materials from that time, one cannot help but feel their power," he says, describing their allure.

Shanghai Art Deco furniture is entirely different from Western Art Deco, British antiques, or the classical Chinese designs symbolizing the Ming and Qing dynasties. A precious shop has opened where one can experience and discuss these actual pieces.
