The Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten Tokyo Main Store is already generating buzz for its striking interior, featuring a "yagura-zukuri" (tower-style) design using Yoshino cypress wood from Nara, one of Japan's three most beautiful forests, and display units inspired by toolboxes. The brand, centered on the concept of "tools for living," emphasizes quality and craftsmanship, proposing functional and beautiful everyday items rooted in home and daily life. This long-awaited Tokyo flagship store marks its debut.
Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten operates as a select shop, gathering living essentials from across Japan, with a focus on original products. Their original items include practical goods reimagined from materials once used for other purposes, such as Nara's specialty mosquito net fabric cloths and Kurashiki canvas tote bags. The curated selection features items like Nambu ironware, donabe clay pots, and enamelware – tools that, much like in the past, gain character with use.
Numerous New Items and Special Exhibitions
To commemorate the grand opening, the store is offering limited-edition "Masashichi Ame" candy and "HASAMI" brand mugs, a Nagasaki pottery line inspired by post boxes. Additionally, in collaboration with "graf," the store's design firm, a limited-edition series of small furniture called "narra" will be available, featuring cabinets and stools designed for versatile use as tools.
Furthermore, eight new items have been introduced from "Horiuchi Kajuen," a new brand launched by "Horiuchi Farm," a family-run orchard in Nishiyoshino, Gojo City, Nara Prefecture, established in 1903. These include five types of "domestic, ripe, additive-free" semi-dried fruits and three types of freeze-dried fruits.
Additionally, an exhibition titled "Nara Mono Ten" (Nara Objects Exhibition), showcasing living essentials with origins in Nara, will be held until Monday, April 15th.
