Seamless Connection Between Inside and Out
Ewan Gallimore and Claire Miller from the Royal College of Art (RCA) created an installation inspired by Jaguar design, which was unveiled at Clerkenwell Design Week in London.
This work was created with the cooperation of Jaguar Advanced Design, which proposes car designs, including concept cars, within the Jaguar design team.
Jaguar was the main sponsor of Clerkenwell Design Week, and this time, they approached the RCA's Vehicle Design and Textile Design departments to explore hints for Jaguar's future design language.
As a result, nine teams from the RAC submitted excellent ideas, and the Advanced Design team selected the work by Ewan Gallimore and Claire Miller as their favorite.
The two students commented as follows:
"Jaguar has a history of creating innovative designs, so we knew we had to create something special to catch the eye of Julian Thomson, Jaguar's Advanced Design Director. We focused on light, particularly how it falls. We wondered if we could emphasize light and create volume through the interaction of materials and how they react to each other."
"What this work and Jaguar have in common are a sense of volume in form, the use of bespoke materials, and an apparent lightness. With the help of these elements, our aim this time was to achieve a seamless connection between the interior and exterior."
For educational purposes, a deadline was also set for submitting ideas, just like in a professional setting. They were given two weeks. Three days later, it was decided who had been selected, and after that, they efficiently began the creation process through meetings with Jaguar Advanced Design.
