McLaren Automotive unveiled the "600LT Spider," an open-top version of the high-performance "600LT Coupe" from its Sports Series, on January 17. This new model is the third in the company's Track25 business plan and the fifth model to bear the "LT" (Longtail) designation.

Achieves a Top Speed of 315 km/h When Open

As its name suggests, the "600LT Spider" announced by McLaren is a derivative of the high-performance "600LT Coupe" that debuted last June.600LT CoupeThe roof has been replaced with an electrically operated retractable hardtop, creating a model that allows for open-air driving.

The roof is composed of three pieces and can be opened or closed with a single button. This hardtop roof, which can be operated while driving at speeds up to 40 km/h, utilizes technology proven in the "650S", "675LT", and "570S" models. When open, it retracts into the tonneau cover behind the seats, and when closed, this area can be utilized as an additional 52 liters of storage space.

During open-top driving, a glass electric wind deflector minimizes wind buffeting and allows occupants to enjoy the distinctive sound of the top-exit exhaust system, a hallmark of the 600LT. Furthermore, this roof offers greater strength and durability than a fabric top, provides coupe-like cabin comfort when closed, and maintains the car's sleek silhouette.

The engine is largely the same as in the 600LT: a 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo mounted behind the seats produces a maximum output of 600 ps and peak torque of 620 Nm. Paired with a dual-clutch 7-speed Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG), it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, the same as the 600LT, and from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.4 seconds, just 0.2 seconds slower. Top speed is rated at 324 km/h when closed and 315 km/h when open.

The body features the same longtail silhouette and fixed rear wing design as the coupe, generating 100 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. The robust carbon fiber "Monocell II" chassis is also identical, eliminating the need for additional reinforcement and keeping the weight increase to just 50 kg, for a total of 1,297 kg. This figure is 100 kg lighter than the base 570S Spider, and its power-to-weight ratio of 463 ps/ton underscores its high-performance credentials.

Orders are now being accepted, with deliveries commencing in March. The price in Japan is set at 32,268,000 yen.
