The Pinnacle of Lamborghini V12: The Aventador SVJ Arrives

On August 23rd, Lamborghini held the world premiere of the Aventador SVJ, a high-performance version of its V12 flagship model, the Aventador, at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, an event held during Monterey Car Week in California, USA.

Nürburgring's Fastest Record

In the Aventador SVJ, 'SV' traditionally stands for Super Veloce (very fast) in the company's nomenclature, while 'J' signifies Jota, indicating superior performance on the circuit. As proof of this, the model has set a new production car lap record of 6 minutes and 44.97 seconds over the 20.6km Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

The optimized 6.5-liter, 60-degree V12 naturally aspirated engine, featuring technologies such as the Ion Current Analysis function for its LIE and a water/oil-cooled cross-flow cooling system, produces a maximum output of 770 hp (566 kW) at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 720 Nm at 6,750 rpm, with a maximum engine speed of 8,700 rpm. With a dry weight of 1,525 kg, the SVJ boasts a power-to-weight ratio of just 1.98 kg/hp. Thanks to its 7-speed AMT transmission and fourth-generation Haldex all-wheel-drive system, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 8.6 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 24 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 350 km/h.

In terms of exterior design, a primary goal was to significantly improve downforce compared to the previous Aventador SV. This resulted in a 40 percent increase in downforce and a 1% reduction in drag coefficient across both axles.

Specifically, elements such as the aero intakes on the front bumper with side fins, the large side air intakes that follow, the rocker panels shaped like jet fighter wings with a Y-shaped theme, the aero-designed underbody, the newly designed rear diffuser, and the high-mounted rear wing all work in conjunction with Lamborghini's patented Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva 2.0 (ALA 2.0) system. This advanced active aerodynamics system dynamically controls high downforce or low drag according to driving conditions.

Furthermore, features inspired by motorsport, such as the quick-release carbon fiber engine cover, upward-facing exhaust pipes, and dedicated 'Nireo' alloy wheels, contribute to weight reduction and dynamism. The tires are Pirelli P Zero Corsa, developed exclusively for the SVJ, featuring vertical rigidity that supports high downforce and ensures strong grip.

The price is 51,548,373 yen. CEO Stefano Domenicali commented, 'The SVJ represents the pinnacle of supersports cars. We sought examples of extreme speed and exceptional aerodynamic performance, drawing inspiration from everything from spacecraft to jet fighters. It represents a further step into the future and holds the potential for new possibilities in supersports car development.'

At the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach, USA, a special edition 'SVJ63' will be exclusively displayed. Limited to just 63 units, commemorating Lamborghini's founding year of 1963, this unique version features extensive use of carbon fiber and distinctive color schemes and trims.
