The First Spider in the Sports Series
McLaren currently offers three lines: the "Ultimate Series," primarily for the track; the "Super Series," for ultimate performance on both track and road; and the "Sports Series," which balances practicality with track-capable enjoyment.
The McLaren "570S Spider,570S Spider" is the third model in the Sports Series. Following the "570S Coupe570S Coupe" and "570GT570GT", it was globally premiered at the "Goodwood Festival of Speed" in the UK in June. This marks the first convertible model in the Sports Series.
The engine is the same 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo McLaren M838TE found in the 570S Coupe, producing a maximum output of 570ps and peak torque of 600Nm. Combined with the SSG (Seamless-Shift Gearbox) featuring launch control, it achieves 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 9.6 seconds. Top speed is 328 km/h with the roof up, identical to the 570S Coupe, and 315 km/h with the roof down. Fuel consumption under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) is 10.7 L/100km, approximately 9.7 km/L when converted.
The roof can be opened or closed in 15 seconds at speeds up to 40 km/h. The rear window deflector is electrically operated and can be raised or lowered with a button. When the roof is down, this deflector reduces wind buffeting, and when the roof is up, it allows the driver to enjoy the mid-rear engine's sound.
This is a retractable hardtop, not a soft top, offering superior weather resistance and reduced fading. The weight increase over the 570S Coupe is only 46kg. Thanks to the carbon fiber MonoCell II chassis common to all Sports Series models, no additional structural reinforcement was needed for the convertible.

Dynamic Design with a Touch of Elegance
Regarding the design of the 570S Spider, Mark Roberts, Head of Design Operations for McLaren Automotive, stated, "Translating all the design language of the coupe into this spider was a significant challenge." He elaborated, "We worked hard to ensure the glass area, created by the beautiful roofline, could be evoked even when the roof is down. The result is a design that is not only visually appealing when open but also achieves a silhouette that is both dynamic and elegant."
He added, "We are introducing the 570S Spider to offer McLaren's diverse driving experience to an even wider range of customers."
Japan: McLaren's Largest Market in Asia
"Japan is a market of immense strategic importance for McLaren," commented Yoshihiro Masumoto, Representative of McLaren Automotive Asia, Japan Branch. It ranks as the fourth-largest market globally and the largest in Asia, with 6 percent of McLaren's worldwide production sold in Japan.
Sales figures show a doubling from 90 units in 2015 to 179 units in 2016. The sales network now comprises four locations, including the Nagoya dealership which reopened after renovations in June, alongside dealerships in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka. "We will continue to actively strengthen our network to provide more customers with the McLaren brand experience and enhanced customer service," Masumoto stated.
