Announcing the Aventador S Roadster

On September 6, Lamborghini announced that the open-top version of its flagship model, the Aventador S, the Aventador S Roadster, would have its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show (September 12-24).

According to Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali, the Aventador S Roadster is "a car with a new dimension of appeal, offering the thrill of open-air driving while retaining the essence of driving pleasure and ride comfort. It sets new standards for technology and performance on both public roads and the racetrack."

The body dimensions are 4,797mm in length, 2,030mm in width, and 1,136mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,700mm, identical to the coupe that debuted at the end of last year.

The detachable roof, a characteristic feature of the roadster, is made of matte black carbon fiber hardtop panels. Shaped to provide ample interior space, they weigh just 6kg. The panels can be easily removed and stored in the front trunk.

The rear section of the body, connected to this, has a completely different line from the coupe, shaped to deliver unique roadster aerodynamics.

The rear window behind the seats can be opened and closed with a button in the driver's seat, allowing enjoyment of the V12 sound at any time. When closed, even with the top down, it minimizes noise and wind buffeting.

Carbon fiber is used extensively not only in the body but also in the side mirrors, windshield frame, front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and exhaust outlets. Furthermore, through the customizable "Ad Personam" program, it can be applied to various interior areas, including the inside of the roof panels, around the cockpit, and throughout the cabin.

In addition to the turquoise sea-like color "Blue Aegis" adorning the announced body, a transparent engine cover to showcase the V12 engine can also be selected through this program.

A Roadster with 740hp V12 and a Top Speed of 350km/h

The naturally aspirated V12 engine, mounted longitudinally in the mid-section, is a powerful unit producing a maximum output of 740hp (544kW) at 8,400rpm and a maximum torque of 690Nm at 5,500rpm. Performance delivered through the 7-speed ISR single-clutch semi-automatic transmission and 4WD system matches the coupe's top speed of 350km/h. Acceleration from a standstill to 100km/h takes 3.0 seconds, to 200km/h in 9.0 seconds, and to 300km/h in 25.0 seconds. The slight differences compared to the coupe – 0.1 seconds slower to 100km/h, 0.2 seconds to 200km/h, and 0.8 seconds to 300km/h – are likely due to the 50kg increase in curb weight to 1,625kg from the open-top conversion. The front-to-rear weight distribution is 43:57. European combined fuel consumption is officially stated as 16.9 L/100km, with CO2 emissions at 394g/km.

The 4WD chassis features enhancements similar to the coupe, including a four-wheel steering system (RWS) for improved agility at low speeds and stability at high speeds, a "magnetorheological suspension (LMS)" using magnetorheological dampers, and an ESC system for precise traction control.

In terms of aerodynamics, the front section generates 130 percent more downforce than the Aventador, and an active rear wing that adjusts its position in three stages according to the selected driving mode and speed further improves aerodynamic efficiency under high downforce conditions.

In addition to the traditional "Strada," "Sport," and "Corsa" driving modes, an "Ego" mode has been added, allowing drivers to customize settings to suit their driving style and enjoy a personalized experience.

The TFT digital dashboard, illuminating before the driver, features updated graphics and customizable displays. Connectivity has also been enhanced with the addition of "Apple CarPlay."

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in February 2018. The price is ¥46,267,692.
