Minimal Weight Increase

At the Geneva Motor Show held in March this year,Made its World PremiereMcLaren's675LT". The LT in its name signifies "Longtail," a nod to the legendary McLaren "F1 GTR Longtail" that excelled in racing. As the name suggests, the 675LT was engineered with circuit use in mind, achieving McLaren's fastest model to date through rigorous weight reduction, enhanced aerodynamics, and improved engine performance.

This Spartan McLaren sold out its entire limited run of 500 units before deliveries even began. The "675LT Spider," an open-top version of the 675LT, is the second model to be introduced.

The glamorous LT exterior has been carried over to the Spider, featuring the distinctive longtail airbrake at the rear. Combined with a flowing rear wing, this enhances the car's imposing rear profile.

Similar to the coupe, extensive weight reduction has been implemented throughout, with carbon fiber used extensively in the body structure and distinctive aerodynamic parts. As a result, the dry weight is 1,270 kg, a reduction of 100 kg compared to the base "650S Spider" and only 40 kg more than the coupe version of the 675LT.

The robust carbon fiber Monocell chassis remains unaffected by the open-top design, requiring no additional reinforcement. Therefore, the weight increase is solely due to the retractable roof system. The retractable roof can be opened or closed while driving at speeds below 30 km/h.

Specifications Comparable to the Coupe

The powertrain features the same enhanced 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine and 7-speed DCT as the 675LT coupe. Engine specifications remain unchanged, delivering a maximum output of 675 ps at 7,100 rpm and peak torque of 700 Nm between 5,000-6,500 rpm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 326 km/h.

The suspension system is designed for circuit driving, with structural and geometrical elements inherited from the coupe. By improving rear balance, downforce is increased by 40 percent compared to the 650S Spider. The 10-spoke ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels are fitted with the "P Zero Trofeo R" sports tires, co-developed with Pirelli specifically for the 675LT, forming the lightest wheel and tire combination in the McLaren range.

The interior has also been subject to weight reduction, with extensive use of Alcantara and carbon fiber. A signature element is the lightweight carbon fiber racing seats, identical to those in the P1, contributing to a 15 kg weight saving on their own. The air conditioning unit has also been removed to save weight, though it can be fitted as a no-cost option.

While the 675LT Spider boasts circuit-oriented performance, it does not offer the "Club Sport Pack" with a titanium roll hoop, four-point harnesses, and a fire extinguisher, unlike the coupe. This can be attributed to its open-top character. Nevertheless, it remains McLaren's fastest and most exhilarating open-top model to date.

The limited production run is set at 500 units, mirroring the coupe, with a price of £285,450 in the UK. Deliveries are scheduled to commence after the summer of 2016. Like its coupe counterpart, it is expected to sell out rapidly.
