The Most Environmentally Conscious Jaguar
Let's go through the changes in the newly announced 2012 models, starting with the XF. For the exterior, the grille and bonnet each convey a muscular impression. A newly adopted triangular side vent and redesigned, slimmer headlamps utilizing high-intensity HID xenon technology give it a fresh look. This design evokes the face of the "C-XF" concept that debuted at the 2007 North American International Auto Show before the XF went into production. The taillight units have been extended to the center of the trunk lid, and LEDs are used for the brake lights and taillights. Three new body colors have been added, and a wide range of wheel options from 17 to 20 inches are available.
A key topic for the 2012 models is the newly developed 2.2-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine newly fitted to the XF. This engine achieves improved ride comfort by reducing NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) levels through the use of low-friction pistons, a water-cooled turbocharger, active engine mounts, and revised sump and engine block. It produces a maximum output of 190 ps and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.0 seconds, with a top speed of 225 km/h. On the other hand, it records CO2 emissions of 149 g/km and fuel economy of 52.3 mpg in European combined cycle measurements. It meets Euro 5 standards, making it the most environmentally friendly Jaguar vehicle.
The transmission has also been updated with a newly developed ZF 8-speed automatic, enabling swift gear shifts in just 0.2 seconds. Additionally, the "Intelligent Stop/Start" system, which precisely controls engine on/off cycles via computer, is making its debut in a premium saloon equipped with a diesel engine.
A Distinctive Face with a Unique Character
Next, the XK features headlamps that have been slimmed down, similar to the XF, and now incorporate LED signal and running lights. The slightly larger oval grille and new bumper design seem to further emphasize its unique character. Seventeen body colors are available, including five new shades. The ability to enjoy a wide range of combinations with 11 different alloy wheel designs, available from 18 to 20 inches, is also a compelling feature.
The engine is a third-generation 5.0-liter V8. Crafted from lightweight aluminum, this engine enhances both power and fuel efficiency through technologies such as spray-guided direct injection (SGDI) and variable camshaft timing (DIVCT).
For the interior, the center console is finished in glossy black, and the use of new wood materials for the trim, along with various color variations, creates a luxurious and enveloping space. Furthermore, the sporty performance front seats as standard on the XK's flagship model, the "XKR-S," announced at the recent Geneva Motor Show, and headlining from the Italian furniture maker Poltrona Frau, can be optionally fitted.XK's flagship model "XKR-S"can be optionally fitted.
Jaguar's Flagship with a Luxurious Interior
Finally, the XJ, Jaguar's flagship. While there are no major revisions compared to the XF and XK, the interior, in particular, has seen additions of luxurious specifications. The "Rear Seat Comfort Package" adopted for the rear seats includes an electric reclining adjustment for the backrest, 4-way lumbar support, and even a massage function.
The long-wheelbase "Portfolio" model features a newly established "Executive Pack," which Jaguar describes as turning the cabin into a mobile office. This includes a folding tray for a laptop, electric rear sunblinds for privacy, higher-grade carpets, and gloss-finished wood panels.
Regarding this announcement, Design Director Ian Callum stated with firm confidence, "The world has seen a completely new face of Jaguar over the past few years. The 2012 models of the XK, XF, and XJ are products clad in boundary-pushing designs. We are confident that the emotion and excitement our cars provide will resonate with our customers."
