875cc, 57kW, 107g/km CO2 Emissions

Already launched in Europe, the 500/500C, featuring Fiat's TwinAir engine—a standout for its small displacement and high performance within the recent trend of downsizing in European cars—is now available in Japan.

The TwinAir engine was developed by FPT (Fiat Powertrain Technologies). Combined with the MultiAir system, it improves intake efficiency and significantly enhances fuel economy. Furthermore, the downsizing concept claims to achieve approximately 30 percent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to engines of similar performance classes. It is also characterized by its exceptionally compact dimensions—23 percent shorter and 10 percent lighter than mid-sized four-cylinder engines of comparable output.

According to Fiat, compared to conventional engines of the same displacement, this engine achieves approximately 10 percent higher maximum output and a torque increase of about 15 percent by closing the intake valves earlier in the low and transient speed ranges. By reducing pumping losses and increasing the precision of combustion control, CO2 emissions are reduced by approximately 10 percent. Precise control of valve opening and closing during the intake stroke reduces emissions of environmental pollutants and improves engine response to the driver's accelerator input.

Starting from ¥2.15 Million

This innovative turbocharged, two-cylinder, MultiAir 8-valve engine with an intercooler, despite its small 875cc displacement, delivers a maximum output of 63kW (85ps) at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 145Nm (14.8kgm) at 1,900rpm. With the ECO switch engaged, it produces 57kW (77ps) at 5,500rpm and 100Nm (10.2kgm) at 2,000rpm. Its output surpasses the current 1.2-liter unit, and its torque is nearly equivalent.

In terms of environmental performance, it also features the START&STOP system, an idling stop function. Fuel economy is 21.8km/ℓ in the 10-15 mode, with CO2 emissions at 107g/km, representing a 58 percent improvement compared to the TwinAir POP and 1.4 POP.

Pricing starts at ¥2.15 million for the standard 500 TwinAir POP, ¥2.45 million for the higher-grade 500 TwinAir LOUNGE, and ¥2.79 million for the open-top 500C TwinAir LOUNGE.
