Debut of Two Entry-Range Models
McLaren currently categorizes its vehicles into three distinct classes based on their character. The top-tier "Ultimate Series" features theP1, while the "Super Series," excelling on the track, includes the650Sand the recently announced675LT.
The "570S Coupe" and "540C Coupe," making their Japanese debut, are positioned as McLaren's entry-level models. Developed as part of the "Sports Series," they represent McLaren's strategy to appeal to a broader customer base. While previous McLaren models primarily targeted enthusiasts of Italian super sports cars, this project was conceived with owners of German sports cars in mind.
As with other models, the car's name denotes its horsepower. Both models are equipped with a 3,799cc V8 twin-turbo engine (M838TE) mounted mid-ship. The 570S Coupe delivers a maximum output of 570ps and 600Nm of torque, while the 540C Coupe produces 540ps and 540Nm. Both are paired with a 7-speed SSG (Seamless Shift Gearbox) twin-clutch transmission, similar to the higher-tier 650S, and offer "Normal," "Sport," and "Track" driving modes.
Despite being entry-level models, McLaren's engineers have made no compromises on performance. The 570S Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, closely rivaling the Porsche911 Turbo S's 3.1-second time. Naturally, the chassis utilizes McLaren's signature carbon fiber monocoque, the "MonoCell II," achieving both high rigidity and low weight.
With a dry weight of 1,313 kg (570S Coupe), it is over 50 kg lighter than the Ferrari488 GTB, boasting a power-to-weight ratio of 2.3 kg/ps, placing it at the top of its class. Furthermore, the Sports Series features significantly improved ingress and egress thanks to lower sills.
Both the 570S Coupe and 540C Coupe feature McLaren's signature dihedral doors that open upwards, strongly asserting their identity. These doors incorporate "floating door shells" for optimized airflow, and the "flying buttress" rear pillars that flow from the body sides to the rear enhance the Sports Series' design while directing air to the V8 engine and generating significant downforce.
The announced domestic prices are 25.56 million yen for the 570S Coupe and 21.88 million yen for the 540C Coupe.
