CEO Discusses a New Future and the Future of Lamborghini

On October 20, Automobili Lamborghini Japan held the "Lamborghini Day 2017" event at the Tokyo Prince Hotel to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Lamborghini imported into Japan. The newly debuted " Aventador S Roadsterwas unveiled for the first time in Asia, and Lamborghini owners, both new and old, gathered for the "Concours d'Elegance TOKYO 2017." We also had the opportunity to interview CEO Stefano Domenicali, who was visiting Japan, to discuss Lamborghini's future and his management philosophy.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini's import into Japan, the "50th Anniversary Japan," a limited one-off production of five units, was named after the "Five Great Elements" that constitute the universe: "Earth" (lime green), "Water" (blue), "Fire" (red), "Wind" (silver), and "Sky" (light blue). However, all five units, including the unveiled "Water," have already been sold out, demonstrating their popularity.

We had the opportunity to interview Stefano Domenicali shortly after the announcement of this limited edition model.

A Day Filled with Motivation, Driven by a Hunger to Never Compromise

Starting with this "Lamborghini Day 2017," you hold numerous events in Japan and around the world. What are the business benefits?

Through these events, we gain insight into what our customers desire and sense current trends. Beyond the pride of owning a Lamborghini and the joy of driving, we can share moments and passion with our customers. As Lamborghini is a small company, it's also a place where we build personal relationships with each customer.

Furthermore, we believe it's important for customers to experience the world and lifestyle of Lamborghini and feel happy, as exemplified by the " Collezione Automobili Lamborghini" official store, which opened for a limited time in Ginza. We aim to nurture these ventures.

Having risen to the top of Lamborghini from the world of motorsport, what is your philosophy and approach to work?

It's the same for any business. I start each day with the motivation to do something different from yesterday. We must not lose our hunger to do better work and avoid compromise. I want my colleagues to understand this as well. And we are truly fortunate to work here.

We live in an era where swift action is essential. There's no time for sleeping, no time for making decisions and then making excuses to avoid responsibility. At the end of each day, I look in the mirror and strive to feel that I've had a good day and made a positive change.

Regarding the "new future" and the "future of Lamborghini" that you mentioned at the press conference.

My duty is to look forward, to the future.Super SUV (referring to the "Urus")With the launch of the Urus approaching, we have hired many people and restructured the organization. We are seriously considering what the next phase will be as we aim to double our business, and what our fourth model in the portfolio will be.

Of course, the trends in the global automotive industry are clear, and we believe we understand them. We are internally discussing whether it will be a GT 2+2 model and what powertrain it will have. We will certainly release it when the timing is right to offer the correct product.

With the introduction of the Urus, customers who do not currently own a Lamborghini will likely join our family. However, we are not in a hurry, and regardless of the form of future products, we must not lose the exclusivity. That is non-negotiable.

After the interview, the CEO immediately headed to the Concours d'Elegance venue. It was striking to see him engaging in conversation, shaking hands, and posing for photos with smartphone cameras alongside numerous Lamborghini owners of models such as the "Countach," "Miura," "Urraco," "Espada," and "350GT." We were able to witness firsthand that the content of the interview was indeed accurate.
