Combined Engine and Motor Output: 187 PS
This HS250h is Lexus's fourth hybrid model and was developed to fill the gap between the current IS and GS models.
The hybrid system features a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, a first for Lexus, paired with an electric motor. The combined maximum output of the engine and motor is 187 PS, with a maximum engine torque of 19.1 kgm (motor torque is undisclosed). This powertrain is coupled with a CVT, and fuel efficiency is said to be improved by approximately 30% compared to current Lexus models.
The body size can be described as upper-middle class. Dimensions are 4695mm in length, 1785mm in width, and 1505mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2700mm, making it a size that is easy to maneuver in Japan.
Prices Range from ¥3.95 Million to Mid-¥5 Million
Furthermore, all HS models are hybrids, with prices ranging from ¥3.95 million to the mid-¥5 million range. The navigation system is standard on all grades. The base grade features fabric seats. Additionally, there are the "Version I" with a leather interior, the "Version S" which offers a sportier feel with a rear spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels, and sports suspension, and the premium "Version L."
Pre-orders for the HS250h will begin in late May. Rumors of a four-month waiting list for delivery at this stage suggest its popularity.
BRAND HISTORY
Toyota launched its luxury car brand LEXUS in the American market in 1989. The aim was to offer a new value proposition distinct from American and German luxury cars, leveraging Toyota's advanced technology, superior quality, and exceptional customer service.
In September of the same year, the "LS400" (domestic name: Celsior) and "ES250" (domestic name: Camry) were introduced to the American market. By February of the following year, the LS400 had already won Best Import Car. Lexus's reputation continued to grow, and with an expanding lineup, it solidified its position as a luxury car brand.
Following its success in America, Lexus expanded into Europe in 2004 and announced its business development in Japan in May of the same year. In August 2005, it launched its luxury car business in its home country. Initially, the lineup lacked a flagship LS, consisting of the "GS" (successor to Toyota's Aristo), "SC" (domestic name: Soarer), and "IS" (successor to Toyota's Altezza). However, in September 2006, the long-awaited new LS was introduced, followed by its hybrid version, the "LS600h/LS600hL," in May 2007, meeting the expectations of luxury sedan buyers.
Meanwhile, Lexus has focused on building a sporty image, announcing the sports model "IS F" in October 2007 and entering the prototype sports coupe "LF-A" in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race in May 2008, further enhancing expectations for its popularity.
