Lightweight Body Under 850kg

The Alfa Romeo 4C Concept, the brand's new sports car, is designed like a compact version of the 8C Competizione, which was released in a limited run of 500 units in 2006. As the name 4C Concept suggests, while the 8C was powered by a V8, this model features a four-cylinder engine. Technologies such as its carbon and aluminum body construction and rear-wheel-drive layout are shared with the 8C. However, combined with its compact body, measuring approximately 4 meters in length with a 2.4-meter wheelbase, and lightweight materials, the vehicle's weight has been kept under 850kg.

The engine is a 1,750cc 4-cylinder direct-injection turbo engine with variable valve timing, also found in the recently released Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde in Europe. While the Giulietta version boasts a maximum output of 235 hp (175 kW), the 4C is stated to produce over 200 hp. This is paired with a dry dual-clutch transmission, the "Alfa TCT," and equipped with the familiar "Alfa DNA" dynamic control selector found in the MiTO. This combination reportedly achieves a top speed of 250 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 5 seconds.

The chassis is made of carbon fiber, with aluminum used for the rear frame and crash box sections. Optimization of weight distribution and the lightweight body enhance agility and a sporty driving feel. The suspension features a high-performance quadrilateral double wishbone setup at the front and MacPherson struts at the rear, with a front-to-rear weight distribution of 40:60.

There is no mention of shared chassis with the KTM X-BOW, which has been rumored. Furthermore, it was announced that the 4C Concept will not remain merely a show model, but will go into production in 2012 to strengthen Alfa Romeo's global strategy.
