For Dewy Makeup, Look No Further Than Kazuko Hayasaka!

CHICO SHIGETAWe've received requests from SHIGETA customers for a "sunscreen cream" for a long time. When we began research at our French laboratory (Laboratoire SHIGETA), we decided that if we were going to create one, we should be ambitious and make something with the functions of base makeup that also provides a beautiful finish. That's why I wanted to collaborate with a makeup professional.

—Why did you choose Hayasaka as that person?

CHICOI had an image in my mind of a beautiful, "water-surface-like" glow, and for dewy makeup, I knew Hayasaka was the one. I was captivated by her work during the photoshoot for "Jessy Box," a bath salt collaboration between Jessica Michibata and SHIGETA!

—What was so impressive about her work?

CHICOBefore the shoot, Hayasaka massages her arms and legs to improve circulation throughout her body before applying makeup to enhance her complexion. This is something we also do within the SHIGETA method, so seeing her apply it from a makeup perspective was striking. I felt that her approach and SHIGETA's theme of "beauty from inside" were perfectly aligned.

Shocked by Makeup That Forgoes Powder for a "Water-Like" Finish

Kazuko HayasakaThree years ago, CHICO asked me, "Are you interested in base makeup? What kind of products do you want?" At the time, on set, I was mixing oils into my base or choosing items solely for their glow and texture, but none were completely satisfying. So, I created a bulleted list of the base I truly wanted and gave it to CHICO. She didn't say it was impossible, though (laughs).

—What is your ideal base makeup?

HayasakaSeventeen years ago, I assisted makeup artist YUKI. I was shocked by her "water-like" makeup that forgos powder, a technique she learned in Europe. Japan has a powder culture, so her dewy finish was truly astonishing.

—What is the difference?

HayasakaWhen the base is thick, facial features can appear smaller. To compensate, one might draw lines or apply mascara, essentially "adding on." However, with a fresh and beautifully dewy base, you can enhance the natural features without the need for excessive makeup.

A Masterpiece That Performs Four Functions for the Skin

CHICOWhat's remarkable about Hayasaka's makeup is that she meticulously massages with cream to improve circulation before applying base makeup. This contributes to skin radiance and hydration.

HayasakaGood circulation brings out an outward radiance. While "creating fresh skin" might sound simple, it doesn't quite translate to foreigners. I believe that when the bare skin is dewy and beautiful, it reflects in the base makeup, making the overall makeup look more striking.

SPF 32 PA+++, it cuts UV rays using only mineral UV filters that are gentle on the skin and the environment. Mineral pearl particles enhance skin radiance while effectively covering pores. This clear (colorless) type can be used on both face and body, and its mineral pearl particles impart a beautiful glow to the skin. Applying it to the décolletage enhances the face's tone by reflecting light. It can also be used as a luminizer applied after other makeup around the eyes. It adheres perfectly to the skin, evens out surface irregularities, and can be used as a makeup base. It contains blend oil RED+, which moisturizes, provides antioxidant benefits, and protects the skin with continued use.

Kazuko Hayasaka
A makeup artist. After three years as a nurse, she studied makeup for one year at sashu.w.3260.studio. In 1998, she apprenticed under makeup artist YUKI and became independent the following year.
