Aēsop, the Australian skincare brand, has released its new Eau de Parfum, "Above All, Steorra." Inspired by shooting stars, it's a modern amber fragrance for urban dwellers.

Founded in Melbourne in 1987, Aēsop has consistently prioritized efficacy in its product development. Its complex and original fragrances are often born serendipitously during this pursuit, a philosophy clearly reflected in this new release.

The creation of the new "Above All, Steorra" began with Aēsop sharing abstract inspirations with perfumer Céline Barrel, a long-time partner. These inspirations included Madoka Mayuzumi's haiku "Shooting star, falling for someone unknown," photographs of the night sky, and various shades of amber.

These unique elements evolved into a dialogue about the awe and infinite possibilities felt when gazing at the vast starry sky above. The fragrance's theme became the question, "Will you leap into the unknown?" transcending the daily routines and urban clamor of modern city life.

Barrel's creation is a poetic and contemplative scent, where cardamom races through a constellation of amber. It fully expresses the depth and multifaceted nature of fragrance that Aēsop has long pursued.

The top notes offer a spicy, fresh, and invigorating aroma of cardamom, bergamot, and elemi. The middle notes reveal frankincense, labdanum, and cypriol heart, creating a deep, calming, rich, fresh, woody, resinous, and spicy scent. The base notes are a rich, elegant, and warm sweet aroma of vanilla bean, cinnamon, and cypriol heart. Vanilla bean and cinnamon are used for the first time in an Aēsop fragrance, marking a new challenge for the brand.

The fragrance name "Steorra" means star in Old English. Like Aēsop's previous fragrance names, it reflects a respect for the enduring nature of language across generations and lands. The addition of "Above All" creates a composition that evokes the wonder reflected in the eyes of those who gaze up at the vast night sky.

Barrel recalls that her experience at the Aēsop Collins Street store in Melbourne was a decisive inspiration for creating the new fragrance. "I wanted to create an 'amber of the heavens.' The store's ceiling uses finely crushed, recycled Aēsop bottles as a base coat, and the moment I saw it, I envisioned a beautiful night sky filled with stardust," she says.

In her perfumery, Barrel reinterpreted the classic amber accord in a modern way. She reduced the sweetness and powdery elements often found in traditional amber fragrances, instead significantly amplifying the scents of woods and resins. Her approach incorporates the warmth of spices and the sweetness of botanicals.

Describing the finished scent, Barrel says, "'Above All, Steorra' is not just a star, but a shooting star. It's a bouquet of complexly combined spices, both hot and cold, leaving its trail in the darkness with a dazzling light."
