The Star of the Collection: The 4-Color Eyeshadow “Les 4 Ombres”

For the Métiers d'Art Collection, Peter Philips, Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, drew inspiration from the mosaic paintings of Empress Theodora of the Byzantine Empire at the Basilica di San Vitale in Italy. The makeup features a nude lip to emphasize modernity.

A red line, drawn across the entire eyelid along the brow line, mirrors the portrait of Empress Theodora. Parallel to this, a deep black line drawn with eyeliner enhances the graphical effect.

The eyes, sandwiched between these two lines, appear like inlaid precious stones. The light and luxury of the Orient, and the radiance of aged adornments, create a gold and red gradient that colors the eyelids. A sheer, shimmering highlighter is applied above the cheekbones. The clear skin, nude lips, and natural beige nails provide a gentle, modern expression while intensifying the power of the gaze.

The centerpiece of the “COLLECTION BYZANCE DE CHANEL,” born from this makeup look, is the 4-color eyeshadow, “Les 4 Ombres.” The four shades, embossed with the iconic Chanel suit button design and CC logo, feature a completely new powdery yet creamy texture that achieves an extremely delicate color payoff.
