Model SHIHO Interview 1
Beautiful Body and Mind Through Sports!
With the rising popularity of sports like running and yoga, SHIHO, a woman whose beautiful physique is admired by all, has released a DVD book titled "Yase-Tore" (Slimming Training), which completely documents her personal training methods. The effectiveness of her program is evident in her proportions, but she shares that beautiful body lines are not the only benefit gained from training. We spoke with SHIHO about what inspired her to start sports, her usual training routine, and the "mental changes" she is currently experiencing.

Achieved the Ideal Body Line!
—What inspired you to start sports? Did you notice changes in your body line as you got older?
I started exercising around the age of 28. Before that, I didn't do any sports at all, but I gradually began to notice changes in my body. Around that time, my pants would get smaller every year. My body also felt generally looser...
—Is your body line more beautiful now than it was 10 years ago?
My weight has increased compared to 10 years ago, but my body definitely has more definition. When I take a bath or change clothes, I always check my bare body. Also, my stomach hasn't been protruding lately. It feels like my pelvis has aligned and my navel has lifted. When I started yoga two or three years ago, I always thought, "I want to have a stomach like hers," and now I've achieved that ideal!

The Importance of Knowing Your Own Body
—What kind of training did you do specifically?
I focus on strengthening the "axis" within my body, the core. My training centers on aligning the body from the inside. I've come to feel my pelvis align, my posture improve, my chest lift, and my stomach tighten. When that happens, the flesh naturally conforms to the bone structure, and your stomach doesn't protrude. Normally, even if you do abdominal exercises, your stomach starts to protrude again once you stop, right? But even without doing that many sit-ups, if your body is aligned, it won't protrude. I was truly surprised by this. For me, I first started yoga to understand the sensation of "body alignment" or "body coming into place," and then I began "Yase-Tore" and was able to experience it. I became able to use muscles I hadn't used before and to feel what it's like for the body to become toned.
—So, knowing your own body is important.
Yes. It's about knowing your current physical condition and having an ideal of what you want to achieve. When your body becomes aligned, it strangely becomes easier. I don't exercise that intensely, and I've hardly ever dieted. Instead, I've become less prone to gaining weight. Also, I believe you can achieve any body you desire once you can communicate with your body through exercise. You can control your body to make it slightly bigger, tighter, or to focus on specific areas. When you feel unwell, you can also understand the cause. Ah, it must be that food, or that way of exercising. Perhaps it's because I can have a dialogue with my body.
—Did knowing your body lead to any changes in your mind?
What I strongly realized is that you are solely responsible for your own body. Whether you get sick or become beautiful, or not, it's up to you. You can't have anyone else manage it for you. I became aware that I need to take responsibility for my body and my way of life, and I'm so glad I realized this early on.

The Time of "Stillness"
—Besides sports, are there any other things you pay attention to in your daily life?
I make an effort to have moments of "stillness" in my everyday life. Due to my profession, I meet many people, and it helps balance my active self. I simply close my eyes, sit, and meditate. It's like seeing things from a bird's-eye view. I've made it a habit to do this for about 20 to 30 minutes. It feels wonderful! I feel grateful for many things. It's hard to express, but I feel like I'm focusing on a deeper level of consciousness, and looking at things from there feels incredibly good. As a result, my active moments become more focused on the "now," and I feel better overall.
—Do you also pay attention to your diet?
I try to eat a balanced diet. I focus on eating a variety of foods, including meat, vegetables, fish, and seasonal produce. Food clearly affects both body and mind, so by maintaining a proper diet, you can build a healthy body and cultivate a positive mindset.
Exercising in Style and Comfort
—You are also active as an Adidas "Sports Muse." Do you have any preferences regarding workout wear?
Like this pink outfit this season, I feel like wearing bright colors in early summer. I buy something new every season, and I'm so happy to have stylish wear. When I actually move in it, the sweat absorption and breathability are excellent, making it very comfortable, so I can exercise with ease. With regular tracksuits, there are always minor annoyances like the drawstrings or things shifting, which can be uncomfortable. But the functionality and materials are constantly improving, and it really lifts my spirits!
—Finally, could you tell us the key points of "Yase-Tore"?
If training doesn't show results, you start to wonder what the point is, right? As part of my profession, it's expected that I have a beautiful body, and with "Yase-Tore," I realized, "I won't gain weight like this!" which was a great relief. This project started from the desire to share this with everyone, so I've packed it with methods that are easier, more detailed, and clearer to achieve those results. I demonstrate a few poses, but these are methods that help you become aware of your body and train to maintain those poses. Please give it a try!
