Shu Uemura, the first brand to incorporate "deep-sea water"—water that has circulated for ages at depths of over 200 meters—into cosmetics, has now created the "Depsea Hydrability" series, a basic skincare line that moisturizes with even more of the ocean's bounty. This series, which focuses intensely on hydration, promises to deliver continuously moist, plump, and smooth skin through a triple action of "giving, creating, and locking in" moisture.

The new ingredients, housed in bottles reminiscent of the mysterious sea, come in three types.

First is "Vita-Sea Ferment Extract." This extract, created by fermenting "thermophilic bacteria"—microorganisms with immense vitality that can survive in extreme environments—has been found through proprietary research to help skin generate its own moisture and boost its vitality. The Depsea Hydrability series uses an extract fermented and cultivated from thermophilic bacteria collected from the surface near deep-sea volcanoes at a depth of 2,000 meters.

"Mineral Algae MgCa" is an extract derived from seaweed, rich in minerals, that inhabits Japanese waters. It locks moisture within the skin and supports its barrier function.
And third is "Hyaluronic Acid Micro-particles." Hyaluronic acid, known for its ability to hold abundant moisture, is designed in micro-particles to penetrate deep into the stratum corneum. Once inside the skin, these particles absorb moisture and swell up to 30 times their original size. This ensures that the absorbed moisture is effectively retained.
