This is the back cover of the catalog purchased at the 2008 exhibition "Rose Space," held to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Redouté's birth. The sensual touch, wavering between delicate realism and fantasy, is unique. The technique of beautifully rendering even the tips of thorns is irresistible. An exhibition of Redouté's work is being held at the Hibiya Library and Museum until June 19, 2015. Harpsichord concerts are also being held, so those interested should definitely visit.
A liqueur glass designed with geometric roses by Georges Chevalier, a representative designer of Baccarat's Art Deco period. Placing just one ice cube here evokes the image of a rose glistening with morning dew.
This is the cocktail "Redouté" mentioned in the text. It's an original, so it's not a name you'll find at any bar, but if you order, you should be understood by saying, "Please top up the Rosenlikör with champagne." Incidentally, the champagne glass was specially made by a harpsichord craftsman acquaintance, who used the technique of enamel etching to depict the "R" of "Redouté" and a rose.
