EVENT | "Planetarium Black Bar" opens for a sensory experience Gallery
The exclusive, invitation-only event "Planetarium Black Bar," hosted by Kirin Diageo's Scotch whisky "JOHNNIE WALKER," was held for five days from Wednesday, May 21st to Sunday, May 25th, at Spiral Hall in Aoyama, Tokyo.
A sky full of stars created by "MEGASTAR," developed by planetarium creator Takayuki Ohira.
Coasters and candles on the black high tables, blending into the starry sky, were original "Johnnie Walker" designs.
A talk show featuring actor Hiroyuki Hirayama and planetarium creator Takayuki Ohira was held during the press preview.
Hirayama, who has experience as a bartender, commented, "It's wonderful to enjoy drinks in such a moody and luxurious space. Johnnie Walker is a well-balanced whisky, so its appeal lies in its versatility, from neat to cocktails."
Ohira remarked, "There are few places where you can enjoy a planetarium show while drinking. It's a special experience. Perhaps gazing at the stars with heightened senses, freed from the stresses of daily life, could lead to new discoveries. I hope people will reflect on many things."
A bar counter emerges from the darkness. Nine whisky drinks and soft drinks were prepared to welcome guests.
The whisky served at the event was "Johnnie Walker Black Label 12 Year Old," characterized by its rich aroma and deep flavor, achieved by blending numerous whiskies aged for over 12 years.
The bar counter was constantly bustling, with long queues forming for the four bartenders.
Original cocktails seemed particularly popular among female guests. The "Johnnie Walker with Tea and Apple Mousse" using Kirin's "Gogo no Kocha" was a refreshing and easy-to-drink choice, while the "Johnnie Walker Bannockburn" mixed with tomato juice and pepper offered a unique, surprisingly delicious flavor.
Despite the busy bar, the four bartenders efficiently served drinks, keeping the queues moving smoothly. The ratio of male to female attendees appeared to be slightly skewed towards men.
The spacious venue, decorated with campaign visuals themed "WHERE FLAVOUR IS KING," offered approximately 160 seats.
An MC, dressed as the brand's iconic "Striding Man," appeared to explain how to enjoy the bar.
A brand movie starring British actor Robert Carlyle greeted guests. The approximately seven-minute film was shot in a single take.
Standard menu options featuring "Johnnie Walker Black Label 12 Year Old." From left: neat, on the rocks, twin half, with water, and highball.
Original cocktails created for the event. From left: "Honey Lemon Highball," "Orange Peel Highball," "Johnnie Walker Bannockburn ~Tomato Juice with Pepper~," and "Johnnie Walker with Tea and Apple Mousse ~Tea with Apple Espuma~" (far right is the standard Twin Half).
A food plate featuring nuts, roasted almonds, smoked cheese, dried fruits, flavored rusks, and flavored chocolates.
Sand art performances were also held between planetarium viewings.
The ethereal performance on this day was by the sand art group "SILT."
At the venue entrance, a photo booth allowed guests to dress up in provided black jackets and hats, and pose as the "Striding Man" against the campaign visual "WHERE FLAVOUR IS KING."
