Anniversaries are irrelevant. I always search with gratitude.I rarely go out specifically to find gifts. As I go about my daily life, I might suddenly see something in a shop and think, 'This person would like this,' or 'This would make them happy.' Then I buy it as a gift. I never search for a present because someone's birthday is a week away. I give gifts to people I cherish and appreciate, whenever I find something suitable. It could be a small trinket, flowers, chocolates, or any small gift that won't burden the recipient. In spirit, I'm giving gifts to someone every day of the year.

My own encounter with Margaret Howell began when my then-girlfriend gave me a shirt as a gift. People have their preferences, but a shirt is something most people are happy to receive. If I were to give a gift, I'd pair a gingham check shirt with a John Smedley cardigan. Both are simple and can be worn year-round, and a set feels more thoughtful than just giving a single item.
