At the center of the Renault booth was a concept car unveiled at this year's Geneva Motor Show.CapturIt is a sporty crossover concept car with the concept of "traveling the world together," powered by a 1.6-liter Energy dCi 160 twin-turbo diesel engine, producing a maximum output of 118kW and a maximum torque of 380Nm, with CO2 emissions kept to 99g/km. The body dimensions are realistic: 4,223mm long, 1,950mm wide, 1,586mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,624mm and a curb weight of 1,300kg. This vehicle was developed from scratch by Laurens van den Acker, former head of design at Mazda, who succeeded Patrick le Quément, former Senior Vice President, Corporate Design, who had long led Renault's design. It is drawing attention as a model that indicates the future direction of Renault design.
Also on display were models such as the Wind Gordini and Mégane Glass Roof Cabriolet, which are scheduled to be released in Japan early next year.
Renault Japon is pursuing an FTS strategy of "French Touch," "Trendy," and "Sporty," and in the future, only distinctive models that fit these three elements will be introduced to Japan. This strategy is expected to be successful, with sales projected to reach 3,000 units in 2011, an 118% increase from the previous year, compared to 1,755 units in 2009 and 2,536 units in 2010.
