Artist-Designed Vans Canvas Sneakers | MARC JACOBS Gallery

Marc Jacobs was born in New York City on April 9, 1963. After graduating from the High School of Art and Design in 1981, he enrolled in Parsons School of Design. While at Parsons, he received numerous awards, including the Best Overall Design Student award, and was recognized as the school's top student. Jacobs presented his first collection under his own brand in 1984 and the following year became the youngest recipient of the Perry Ellis Award for Emerging Talent from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), which honors outstanding achievements in the fashion industry.
Julie Verhoeven is widely known as a fashion illustrator and designer, but her unceasing, unconventional approach continues to evolve beyond installations and video production into performance art. Verhoeven also collaborated on several pieces, including ready-to-wear and accessories, for Marc Jacobs' Spring/Summer 2017 collection.
Sarah Tanno gained renown for her long-term work with Lady Gaga, establishing herself as a leading makeup artist in the industry. Her client list includes Gigi Hadid, Dakota Johnson, Suki Waterhouse, and Michelle Monaghan, and she has collaborated on numerous projects with top photographers such as Steven Klein, Terry Richardson, and Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin. Earlier this year, she was appointed Marc Jacobs' Global Artistry Ambassador and is currently represented by The Wall Group, a talent management agency for creators including top stylists, hair stylists, and makeup artists.
Jin Soon Choi is one of today's most influential nail artists, celebrated for her elegant and minimalist style. A native of South Korea, Choi steadily built her career as a freelance nail artist after moving to New York in 1991. In 1999, she opened her first Jin Soon Hand and Foot Spa in the East Village, specializing in nail treatments. She has been the manicurist for Marc Jacobs' runway shows (and for Marc Jacobs himself) for many years, using Marc Jacobs Beauty nail lacquers.
Milk (aka Dan Donigan) Donigan, originally from Syracuse, New York, joined Marc Jacobs' merchandising team in 2009. Later, to pursue her career as a drag queen, Donigan appeared on the sixth season of "RuPaul's Drag Race" in 2014 under the stage name Milk. She currently leads her drag group, The Dairy Queens, based in New York.
Ariel Dearie's style is inspired by the history and botanicals of her native New Orleans. Ariel excels at creating floral arrangements that are both natural and classically elegant. Her work, which has long contributed to Marc Jacobs as the brand's florist, has been featured in publications such as Vogue, New York Magazine, Brides Magazine, and Kinfolk.
Jazelle Zanotti, one of the most talked-about up-and-coming models, appeared in Marc Jacobs' 2017 Pre-Fall campaign and lookbook. When not modeling, Jazelle works on embroidery, showcasing her intricate and provocative art on her Instagram account (@uglyworldwide), which has over 170,000 followers.
Ava Nirui is a bootleg artist who reinterprets fashion from a new perspective by transforming and reconstructing brand logos. Last year, she created a series of works using Champion's "C" logo, which included Marc Jacobs. Nirui currently also works as the Digital/Social Editor for Helmut Lang.
Masahiro Yasunoya Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1991. He studied design at Seika University in Kyoto and fine arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in the Netherlands, and is currently based in Tokyo. Yasunoya's work is featured in its entirety in the art book "STEIDL-WERK," produced by Singaporean national treasure designer Theseus Chan and German publisher STEIDL. His work was also used in the COMME des GARCONS SHIRT 16-17AW collection, marking him as a rising artist to watch.
Tetsuya Chihara Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1975. As the representative of the design office "Lemonlife Inc.," he handles design across various genres, including advertising, fashion branding, CD jackets, bookbinding, magazine editorials, web, and video. His recent works include branding for Unanana cool, Kyoko Koizumi's 35th-anniversary best album, Zoff advertisements, Soen magazine covers, NHK program logos, and adidas Originals store branding. He expands his activities beyond graphic design through his work as an artist drawing on canvas with markers, his radio program on iTunes, and his "Lemonlife Design School" in Kyoto.
Toru Kamei Born in 1976. An oil painter based in Tokyo, he primarily creates still lifes of plants. Kamei's work transcends classical art techniques while reinterpreting the style of 17th-century vanitas. His gothic and surrealist style has garnered a large online following in recent years, and he released an exclusive capsule collection for Dior Homme's Spring/Summer 2017 line under the direction of Kris Van Assche.
Yuka Mizuhara A popular model featured in numerous fashion magazines such as VOGUE, ELLE, NUMERO, and NYLON. She has also gained popularity as a DJ, performing at fashion and music events. She has collaborated with artists like Yukihiro Takahashi (YMO), Towa Tei, and Keigo Oyamada. As a fashion icon popular among young people, she embodies Tokyo's pop culture with a cute aesthetic, and her signature pink hair is distinctive.
Anan Nishikata Nishikata's work is created using traditional Japanese craft techniques, including hand-dyeing, hand-painting, and various Yuzen resist-dyeing methods. Born into a family of traditional Tochigi Prefecture artisans, she grew up surrounded by hand-weaving craftsmen. She created her first piece in kindergarten and has continued her artistic exploration ever since. Nishikata uses pigments, dyes, and fabrics to create beautiful works that evoke warmth in the viewer. The Yuzen technique, used to paint details after hand-dyeing fabrics in bright, beautiful colors, enhances the appeal of her work, with each step reflecting the artist's dedication. A single piece can take several months to complete. She has been invited to the Tochigi Prefectural Art Festival for four consecutive years and has exhibited globally in Paris, New York, and Singapore.
Niki Lauriola Artist/Illustrator. Born and raised in Tokyo to a German and Japanese mother, she graduated from Central Saint Martins in London with a degree in Graphic Design. She currently works between Japan, Europe, and the US West Coast. Ibuki Sakai Born in Tokyo in 1997. A young Japanese artist and fashion model. She has been creating things since childhood and started taking photos with a film camera in junior high school. After entering a general high school, she began creating zines compiling her photographs and collages, discovering the world of zines and teaching herself everything from design to binding. Around this time, she also began working as a fashion model both domestically and internationally. As an artist, her unique world, expressed through her own photography, collages, and use of label makers, has garnered attention, leading to work on magazines, products, and artwork for independent musicians. She is currently the youngest member of the Osho ZINE Fair, participating alongside members such as Ken Kagami and George Nakamura.
Koichiro Takagi Born in Tokyo, Takagi studied various materials at an art school in San Francisco, based his creative practice in New York for a period, and then returned to Japan. His artistic range is broad, from painting to embroidery. However, a consistent element across his diverse expressions is the inherent sense of unease and contradiction within his work, and the near absence of human figures as motifs. His subjects are often animals or anthropomorphized animals, whose expressions can be charmingly cute or menacingly confrontational, baring their fangs at the viewer. This anonymity and mystique, unique to works featuring animals as protagonists, create a peculiar sense of unease, blending familiarity with dissonance. Takagi's art depicts the fluctuating emotions and inherent contradictions of people, while also expressing the existence of an ideal world that, though unseen, is believed to exist. As guides to this utopia, the varied intentions hidden in the expressions of his protagonists prompt the viewer to re-examine the truth for themselves amidst shifting values.
Yuki (aka Young Juvenile Youth) Yuki began her musical journey in 2012 with electronic musician JEPMAUR, forming the electronic music unit Young Juvenile Youth (YJY), where she serves as the vocalist. In 2013, their debut 12-inch EPs, "Anti Everything" and "More For Me, More For You," were released with cover art illustrated by Yuki herself. In 2015, their mini-album "Animation" reached the number one spot on the iTunes Electronic Chart for seven consecutive weeks. The music video garnered significant attention from international media and beyond. In recent years, she has been actively performing live, including appearances at Taicoclub, Fuji Rock Festival, EMAF TOKYO, and as an opening act for METAFIVE. Yuki is emerging as a new star, making waves in the fashion, culture, and music scenes.
