Test Drive: Rolls-Royce Dawn in Cape Town | Rolls-Royce Gallery

6.6-liter V12 rear-wheel drive
Steering wheel position available in both right-hand and left-hand drive
The high-mounted rear combination lamps create a sense of dynamism
LED headlamps automatically switch when encountering oncoming vehicles during high-beam use
Priced at 37.4 million yen in Japan, slightly higher than the Wraith coupe (33.83 million yen)
We didn't think it was enough if it could only be used by two adults, says the design director
The roof is made of a six-layer fabric
A 1952 Silver Dawn parked in front of a Cape Town hotel
The roof opens and closes silently, a feature Rolls-Royce calls 'Silent Valley'
Wood panels are mainly of a matte finish
The leftmost gauge is called the power reserve, indicating the amount of power remaining
The wood grain in the center of the rear seat is called the 'waterfall'
The seam on the rear part of the soft top is treated with a 'French seam' to reduce wind and sound noise
Maximum output is 420kW (570ps) @ 5250rpm, maximum torque is 780Nm @ 1500-5000rpm
Driving with the top down allows you to feel the wind
It's very stylish even with the top up
The body can be chosen in monotone or two-tone finishes
The quietness while driving is remarkably high
In Cape Town, we are driving with special permits, so there are no license plates
The wheelbase is 180mm shorter than the Ghost, but it's still spacious enough
As a full convertible, it's the second model in the lineup after the Phantom Drophead Coupe
Some panels emphasize wood grain, while others do not
An analog clock is fitted to the dashboard
The door sill is engraved with 'Handbuilt at Goodwood'
