Sculptural Forms and Play of Light
Gerald Genta was a maison founded in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1969. Driven by a passion for unrestrained creation, free from specifications and compromises, founder Gerald Genta established a unique design language. The perfect balance of form and function, striking contrasts, and hidden geometric patterns all embody his visionary perspective.
In 2023, the maison was revived with the support of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton and under the artistic direction of Michel Navas. La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton is an atelier founded by two visionary master watchmakers, Michel Navas and Enrico Bartolini. Based in Meyrin, Geneva, Switzerland, designers, engineers, and artisans have come together here for over two decades in pursuit of excellence.
This manufacture, which also encompasses Gerald Genta and Daniel Roth, boasts three specialized divisions: "La Fabrique des Boîtiers" (cases), "La Fabrique des Cadrans" (dials), and "La Fabrique des Mouvements" (movements). By fusing traditional techniques with cutting-edge technology, they produce timepieces of exceptional finishing, including those that have earned the "Poinçon de Genève" seal.
The name "Geneva" signifies more than just a place. As Gerald Genta's birthplace and the site of the maison's revival, Geneva embodies pure sophistication and the quintessence of unpretentious watchmaking. Two new creations, dedicated solely to displaying the time, have now joined this collection imbued with its spirit.
The collection originally began with the "Geneva Minute Repeater," one of watchmaking's most complex complications. It has now evolved into a new interpretation, "Time Only," elevating everyday watches into wearable art.
Deeply inheriting the "Spirit of Geneva" and Gerald Genta's timeless artistic legacy, the two new creations mark a captivating new chapter for the collection with their distinct expressions in rose gold and white gold.
Designed by Michel Parmigiani, the two new models feature a slim profile and a versatile 38mm case size. The cushion-shaped case, conceived by Genta in the 1970s, has been updated with a softer aesthetic than the original, achieving a rare balance of boldness and restraint, softness and sharpness.
Its outline, adorned with gadroon engraving that is neither perfectly round nor square, creates a timeless silhouette that transcends trends. To accentuate the case's contours, Parmigiani deliberately incorporated broad, short lugs on both sides. These meticulous details integrate Genta's signature presence into everyday life.
Furthermore, the contrast between polished and satin finishes enhances the case's contemporary yet understated beauty. All cases are meticulously crafted in-house at our dedicated case-making atelier, "La Fabrique des Boîtiers."
The dial, composed of two segments, is also noteworthy. An outer segment following the case's cushion shape combines with an inner segment forming a perfect circle, creating a captivating optical illusion that reflects the passage of hours and minutes within a soft saturation.
The "Geneva Time Only Marrone" is a warm model featuring 4N rose gold for the case and hands, known for its ability to capture and reflect light. The gradient smoked brass dial emits a soft, bronze-like subtle glow, complemented by a brown leather strap that enhances its retro elegance.
Meanwhile, the "Geneva Time Only Graphite" exudes a cool, metallic presence with its white gold case and silver-toned brass dial. Rounded gold hands and indices add depth and contrast, recalling Genta's commitment to distinctive craftsmanship. It is fitted with a grey calfskin leather strap.
The watch is powered by the automatic movement "Zenith Elite GG-005P," visible through the open case back. Equipped with a redesigned self-winding rotor for enhanced aesthetics, it offers a 50-hour power reserve and a frequency of 4 Hz. Comprising 158 components, the movement is meticulously finished, appearing delicate yet offering exceptional precision and reliability for daily wear.
With these two pieces, where light, proportion, and sculptural intent harmonize, the "Geneva" collection begins a new chapter. Arriving at the ultimate simplicity of displaying only the time embodies Genta's philosophy that beauty resides in stripping away the superfluous.
