A Pendulum-Driven Automatic Movement Showcasing German Ingenuity: A Superb Model That Magnifies the Significance of a Niche Brand

Two variations of the "Hamatik," featuring Moritz Grossmann's proprietary pendulum-driven automatic movement, will be available from December 2021. These models adopt a classic silver friction coating for the dial and are crafted from 18k rose gold or 18k white gold. Each is a rare limited edition of just 8 pieces worldwide.

The Dial's Aesthetic is Equally Exceptional! The Silver Friction Coating is Exquisite.

Moritz Grossmann is releasing two rare timepieces as variations of the "Hamatik Vintage," one in an 18k white gold case and the other in an 18k rose gold case, each limited to 8 pieces worldwide.
The hallmark of this piece is its Moritz Grossmann-exclusive pendulum-driven automatic movement. Furthermore, the dial's simple yet elegant silver friction coating warrants close attention. This technique, which offers excellent legibility and a finish with fine, velvety particles that shimmer, is a tradition dating back to 19th-century Glashütte.
The process begins by thoroughly cleaning the dial and then applying the coating by brushing a mixture of fine silver particles, salt, and a small amount of water onto the finely textured surface. Before coating, the dial's indices and logo are hand-engraved, and this recessed area is filled with black lacquer that repels the silver powder. Consequently, the indices and logo retain their black lacquer without being affected by the coating, creating a beautiful contrast with the shimmering silver dial. A protective coating is then applied to the surface to shield the dial from oxidation and environmental changes. All these steps are performed by hand, requiring skilled craftsmanship, intense concentration, and experience – a mastery possessed by only a few artisans today. The dial, with its blend of gloss and matte textures, creates a unique contrast, ensuring its allure endures.
The slender, delicate Roman numerals on the dial are inspired by pocket watches crafted by watchmaker Moritz Grossmann in the 19th century. Furthermore, the "M. GROSSMANN" logo, used in 1875, accentuates the classical design. The hands, meticulously finished into a pear shape and individually flame-blued to a brown-violet hue, enhance legibility.
The concept for the Hamatik's innovative movement is also inspired by the technology of the same era. The Caliber 106.0, perfectly engineered by Moritz Grossmann, features a unique hammer winding mechanism that bridges classical pendulum mechanics with counterweights and superior modern engineering. This mechanism, with its highly efficient mainspring winding, ensures stable, high precision and offers a 72-hour power reserve from a full wind. In line with the Glashütte tradition of watchmakers meticulously finishing not only the appearance but also the precision of every component, the movement's parts, including the smallest ones hidden from view, are painstakingly polished and hand-engraved. This exquisite finishing can be admired in detail through the hammer frame, which does not obscure the movement.
To complement the case colors, the strap for the 18k rose gold model is dark brown alligator leather, while the 18k white gold model features black alligator leather, further enhancing their vintage aesthetic. These timepieces, showcasing the exceptional quality of Moritz Grossmann, are limited to 8 pieces worldwide each and are scheduled for release from December 2021.
