Museum 60mm
Text by OPENERS
The "Museum" series is the face of Movado. This design is based on the original drawing created by Nathan George Horwitt in 1947.
In 2007, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the original drawing's creation, an anniversary model with a case diameter of a remarkable 60mm was released. The large 60mm dial and case, adorned with 60 diamonds, were truly breathtaking (however, the model released in Japan does not feature diamonds). Furthermore, the limited production run was also set at 60 pieces, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the theme.
Automatic winding. Case diameter 60.0mm. 18KWG case. Alligator strap. 3 ATM water resistance. ¥3,990,000 (without diamonds).

BRAND HISTORY
Founded in 1881 by Achille Ditesheim, then just 19 years old, in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The brand name signifies "relentless progress."
Movado gained renown for its integrated approach to watchmaking, from the movement onwards, and subsequently grew into a capable watch manufacturer with the release of masterpieces such as the "Ermeto" and "Polyplan."
However, when one speaks of Movado, the "Museum" series is undoubtedly the most famous. The design, which eliminates everything except for the dot at the 12 o'clock position representing the midday sun, leaves an unforgettable impression.
The designer of this watch, released in 1961, was Nathan George Horwitt (pictured). Its dial design, free of any unnecessary elements and reflecting the influence of the Bauhaus movement, has been recognized with a place in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in the United States. It is a work that pioneered the "art watch" genre.
In recent years, in addition to the Museum series, Movado has been developing elegant dress watches such as the "Elliptica," a modern interpretation of the Polyplan design, and the "Classic" series, which revives early 20th-century designs.
