A Fortnight to Immerse Yourself in the Tourbillon Collection at Four Boutiques

The tourbillon, an invention by Abraham-Louis Breguet, was developed to enhance the precision of pocket watches.

To eliminate errors caused by the balance wheel and escapement, which govern watch accuracy, being pulled by gravity in a vertical position, the entire escapement mechanism is housed in a carriage that rotates once every minute, or every four or six minutes.

Uneven gravitational forces, depending on the watch's position, can impede the regular oscillation of the balance wheel and affect accuracy. However, adjusting accuracy based on the watch's position is difficult. Therefore, Breguet conceived of eliminating the effects of gravity by making the balance wheel itself rotate at regular intervals.

In 1795, Breguet applied for a patent for the tourbillon with the French Ministry of the Interior, and obtained the patent on June 26, 1801.
The patent document records this date according to the Republican Calendar of the time as the 7th day of Messidor, Year 9.

The modern Breguet company, which continues to uphold the lineage of the tourbillon, considered one of the greatest inventions in watchmaking history, designates June 26th as Tourbillon Day, celebrating it as the brand's anniversary.

To commemorate this, Breguet will host a two-week promotion titled "Breguet Tourbillon Day" at its four directly managed boutiques in Japan.

The boutiques will showcase a variety of tourbillon collections, with staff on hand to provide detailed explanations of their unique complex mechanisms and allure. Furthermore, it will be an opportunity to experience the 2020 new tourbillon models up close before anyone else.
