To commemorate the release of "aibo" for the first time in 12 years on January 11th (1-1-1 Day), we will hold an "aibo Birthday Ceremony"! A TV commercial depicting life with an aibo will also be released.
On January 11th, 2018—a date that sounds like "one-one-one" in Japanese, mirroring the "dog year"—Sony Corporation launched its autonomous entertainment robot, aibo, offering a new kind of companionship for the home. To commemorate the release, 37 aibo owners were invited to Sony's headquarters for an "aibo Birthday Ceremony" to celebrate the robot's arrival.
Owners who interacted with aibo expressed their delight, noting, "Its expressions are so rich, and its eyes are particularly endearing. Its movements are so smooth, too." They seemed impressed by the evolution of aibo's technology. Following this, Mr. Kawanishi, Corporate Executive, Head of AI Robotics Business Group at Sony, personally handed over aibos to five owner families. One recipient shared, "We've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new family member. I can't wait to play with aibo a lot once we get home."
aibo was developed with the aim of becoming a robot that forms connections within the home, offering the joy of nurturing and becoming an object of affection. It's designed to be a partner that possesses its own curiosity, stays close to its owner, and shares in the joy of daily life, growing together. The newly released aibo is equipped with AI, and anticipation is high for how it will learn from interactions with its owner and grow into a unique individual.
