The ART SHOP, an inspiring hub for art and culture in the Yaeyama region, has opened.
The ART SHOP, a new concept gallery and shop aiming to share the art and culture of the Yaeyama region, has opened on the first floor of Art Hotel Ishigakijima.
To commemorate the opening, a special exhibition by Yasutake Ichijyo, an artist active on Ishigakijima, titled "Yasutake Ichijyo Exhibition," is being held until Sunday, September 30.
Art Hotel is a full-service hotel brand within the Mynavi Group, which operates 87 hotels and ryokans nationwide, with six properties in Japan.
Art Hotel Ishigakijima, which opened in April 2017, is a resort hotel with the concept of "urban resort," combining a lush green environment overlooking Mt. Banna with a sophisticated space based on modern chic.
In June 2018, the hotel invited "Dug's Coffee," a specialty hand-drip coffee shop from Miyakojima, and has since been actively promoting the region's charm, offering experiences and spaces that provide "Nuchigusui" (things that nourish the soul) and suggesting ways to spend time.
The gallery shop, The ART SHOP, aims to be a hub for cultural exchange and interaction with creators, curating art from Ishigakijima, Yaeyama, Okinawa, and Asia through its unique perspective.
It will host special exhibitions centered on various forms of creation, including crafts, folk art, and music.
With plans for workshops and talk events by artists, the space is anticipated to become an inspiring art hub not only for tourists but also for island residents.
This exhibition features Yasutake Ichijyo, an artist from Ishigaki City who has received numerous awards for his artwork.
The exhibition, the largest to date, will showcase and sell his works and original merchandise, including the new piece "Thirteen Nights of Stars," which measures 4 meters wide.
Additionally, handcrafted works by "pansy+pansy62," a popular local artist residing on Ishigakijima and a creative collaborator of Ichijyo, will also be featured.
