Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia to Celebrate 20th Anniversary
Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), an Academy Awards-accredited international short film festival and one of Asia's largest, will be held again this year.
This year marks the festival's 20th anniversary, with the theme "Cinema Smart," embodying the desire to reflect on the emotions and value that cinema brings.
A record-breaking number of over 10,000 short films were submitted from more than 130 countries and regions.
Approximately 250 carefully selected works will be screened at multiple venues across Tokyo, including Omotesando Hills Space O and Laforet Museum Harajuku, from June 4 (Mon) to June 24 (Sun), the festival's duration.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary, the acclaimed Japanese dance and vocal group Sandaime J Soul Brothers from EXILE TRIBE has been appointed as the festival navigator to energize the event.
Furthermore, their new song "FUTURE" has been chosen as the official theme song.
As in previous years, film commentator LiLiCo will serve as the festival ambassador.
She will grace the opening ceremony and share insights on the festival's highlights and the charm of short films from the perspective of a top entertainer, further amplifying the excitement.
SSFF & ASIA 2018 introduces a new VR competition category, "VR SHORTS," a first for a film festival in Japan.
A special venue equipped with multiple VR devices will be set up to showcase a curated selection of VR films from around the world, chosen for their cinematic storytelling and artistic merit.
