A world-renowned designer's first smart home appliances. Introducing the new "FoElem" series, a fusion of sophisticated design and functionality.
EPEIOS JAPAN Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takehiko Komazaki) announced the "FoElem" series of IoT home appliances, conceptualized around "A moment of respite for your precious time," on November 16, 2022. The "FoElem" series is an IoT home appliance line that harmoniously blends sophisticated design with functionality, developed in collaboration with world-renowned designers Benoît Pierre Emery and Damian OʻSullivan from France. The newly launched "FoElem" series will sequentially release four products: the smart humidifier "Heal," the smart non-fry oven "Chef," the smart coffee maker "Mocca," and the smart fan "Wind." To commemorate this, a press conference was held on November 17 to unveil the new series and its four products.
■ EPEIOS's Business Development as a Lifestyle Solution Brand
Chairman and CEO Kin Sei-san explained that although the company was founded just in 2020, they have strived to provide products that enrich not only material wealth but also the spirit, by maximally reflecting the essence of Japanese craftsmanship in their products as a lifestyle solution brand. This effort led to a collaboration with Enmono Co., Ltd., and secured Tuya, a top player in the global IoT industry, as a strategic business partner. He also noted that the Japanese IoT sector is expected to see high growth, with achievements exceeding 5 trillion yen in 2021 and an average annual growth rate projected at 9.1% until 2026. He believes this partnership will be a strong tailwind for EPEIOS JAPAN Co., Ltd.
■ The New Lifestyle Proposed by the "FoElem" Brand
President and CEO Takehiko Komazaki introduced "FoElem," named after "Four Elements," explaining that its design evokes the changes found in nature through the four elements. The series aims not only to expand and enhance functionality but also to enable convenient and personalized use tailored to individual preferences and lifestyles through the original EPEIOS Life application, realizing diverse and practical applications for different living situations.
■ The Smart Humidifier "Heal": Stimulating the Senses, Nourishing the Soul
Heal, with its distinctive design reminiscent of the "Water" element, is inspired by the natural cycle of water evaporating into the sky, returning as rain, and falling back to the earth. The glass tank, designed with an "hourglass" motif, further expresses the series' concept of "the passage of time." Beyond its aesthetics, Heal (Heal) embodies its product concept of "moistening the soul" with three key features: "sound, light, and aroma." For humidification, it employs a hybrid system combining heating and ultrasonic technology. Heating the water offers sterilization benefits and provides comfortable warmth without lowering room temperature, while the ultrasonic method is energy-efficient and gentle on the wallet. This combination creates a humidifier that is comfortable, safe, and eco-friendly.
Prior to the November 17 launch, a pre-order campaign was initiated on a crowdfunding site, with details about the designers kept confidential. The campaign achieved over 600% of its funding goal. Notably, among crowdfunding participants, who tend to be predominantly male, 70% of the backers were women, indicating a strong positive reception, particularly from women.

■ The Ultimate Smart Home Appliances from World-Renowned Designers
The FoElem project, launched with Benoît Pierre Emery—an internationally acclaimed art director and fashion designer who served as chief designer for textiles, including scarves and tableware, at Hermès for approximately 10 years—and Damian O’Sullivan, who has designed bags and accessories for Hermès and contributed to numerous renowned brands such as Paul Smith, Shiseido, and Louis Vuitton, marked a first-time challenge for both world-class designers.
During an engaging talk session, the two designers expressed their delight in the collaborative process of refining the designs alongside the EPEIOS JAPAN team, who were committed to pursuing not only aesthetics but also functionality.
