Champagne House Krug Presents One-Night-Only Event 'KRUG ENCOUNTERS'
Krug, the prestige Champagne House, consistently crafts exceptional Champagne year after year, regardless of the climate.
Krug, which believes that joy is the essence of Champagne, held an event titled 'KRUG ENCOUNTERS,' focusing on pairings with music and cuisine, at Asaba in Shuzenji, Izu, Shizuoka.
The event featured unique Krug lovers, including Mr. Yukiyoshi Tada, owner of the renowned Osaka-Kita-Shinchi establishment 'Sushi-doko Tada' and Krug Ambassador, alongside musicians and gourmands.
The evening was crafted to deliver a rare sense of joy, born from the fusion of Krug's inherent 'musicality' and its philosophy, upheld since its founding in 1843, of expressing Champagne's character through pairing with a single ingredient.
Amidst the autumn rain, evoking the deepening of the season, guests were welcomed by the proprietress of Asaba, a ryokan with over 500 years of history in Shuzenji.
Within the spacious, historic inn, guests savored aperitifs prepared by Chef Tada while immersing themselves in the music of an ensemble led by the acclaimed accordionist coba, surrounded by a comforting ambiance of wabi-sabi, exquisite Japanese aesthetics, and a breathtaking Noh stage.
Olivier Krug, the 6th generation head of the Krug family, appeared on the stone stage floating on the water and declared, 'When you enjoy Krug, you are sensing its musicality. Enjoying Krug can be likened to 'listening to Krug.' Krug appeals to your senses, and when enjoyed with music and food, your senses become even sharper and more stimulated.' He then proposed a toast to celebrate this one-night-only banquet.
After a period of enjoying the music and the night air, guests moved to the dinner venue.
That evening, guests indulged in 'Fish,' this year's featured single ingredient for Krug, a dish demanding utmost freshness and showcasing diverse textures, flavors, and an ever-changing character.
A series of pairing dishes, including a 'Chirashi Sushi Mille-feuille,' were served, creating moments of supreme delight, accompanied by Krug 2004, Krug Rosé 21ème Édition, and Grande Cuvée 166ème Édition.
Finally, Olivier Krug remarked, 'What a wonderful evening. Wonderful music, unforgettable food, and dear Krug lovers, thank you so much for tonight,' bringing the event to a close with an atmosphere of ultimate joy.
