Unprecedented aroma. "Umeshu Nouveau" allows you to enjoy the taste before aging, now available.

Wakayama-based brewery Nakano BC has released "Umeshu Nouveau," a new sake that allows you to enjoy the taste of plums harvested this year, much like Beaujolais Nouveau.

The "New Sake" of Umeshu, Enjoyable Only at This Time of Year

Umeshu Nouveau is shipped as "new sake" before aging in tanks, using plums (Nanko ume from Wakayama) that were pickled starting on June 6, 2016, which is also Plum Day.

It features the fresh, fruity flavor of this year's plums and a clear, vibrant golden hue, unique to its unaged state.

We recommend serving it straight in a wine glass to fully appreciate the vibrant, youthful aroma of the plums. With an alcohol content of 20%, those who prefer a lighter drink can enjoy it mixed with soda water for a crisp, champagne-like experience, perfect for the Christmas season.

This year's plums were slightly smaller due to a warm period from April to June, which led to an earlier harvest. However, this resulted in fruits with firm skin and flesh, packed with concentrated nutrients, yielding a top-quality harvest.

Along with this year's Umeshu Nouveau, they are also selling the "Umeshu Premium Set: Toki (Time)," a set that includes a 9-year aged "Vintage Umeshu" (200ml) made from plums pickled in June 2007. This set allows for a comparative tasting and is an ideal gift.

The products are available at mass retailers, restaurants, liquor stores nationwide, and the Nakano BC online shop.
